The Wine Tipster’s Saturday ITV Racing selections for Cheltenham and Doncaster

The Wine Tipster Racing

Neil Phillips AKA The Wine Tipster has come up with his Saturday ITV Racing selections for Cheltenham and Doncaster this weekend.

1.50 Cheltenham

Nick Williams has a tremendous strike rate currently and Coo Star Sivola has shown that Cheltenham suits him previously over hurdles and this season in two chase starts at Prestbury.

At the November meeting Coo Star Sivola chased home the smart Finian’s Oscar and Movewiththetimes, whilst in December he reversed form with Movewiththetimes when second in Kalondra in a smart four runner contest.

2.05 Doncaster

Indian Hawk is another good novice from Nicky Henderson’s yard and he has an excellent chance of following up on his Ludlow success over two miles five and half furlongs as he steps up to three miles and half a furlong.

He looked a true stayer at Ludlow and this winning pointer can continue to improve sharply.

2.25 Cheltenham

The Last Samuri (nap) can take the Cotswold Chase on his first visit to Cheltenham in a shrewd move by Kim Bailey, with his charge looking sure to be suited by course and race conditions.

The Last Samuri has shown himself to be in good form this season, running well in a hurdle race at Kempton to finish second to Bags Groove and then runner-up to Blacklion in the Becher Chase when giving six pounds.

Instead of giving weight away The Last Samuri gets six pounds from Bristol De Mai, who still has to completely convince at Cheltenham and whilst brilliant at Haydock in the Betfair Chase was flattered by the winning distance.

The Last Samuri receives the same weight allowance from Definitly Red, who beat him by fourteen lengths when receiving twelve pounds in the Grimthorpe at Doncaster last year.

2.40 Doncaster

Maria’s Benefit notched up a four-timer in great style at Taunton last time out for underrated trainer Stuart Edmunds when easily seeing off her main rivals If You Say Run and Sunshade with her relentless galloping style.

Although the handicapper has raised her to a mark of 152 she still looks more than capable of continued improvement and will strike again.

3.00 Cheltenham

Nicky Henderson continues to have his yard in tremendous form and has a very strong team of novices’ including Santini.

This ex winning point-to-pointer on his only start looked mighty impressive on racecourse debut at Newbury in December when beating Chef Des Obeaux by nearly five lengths, with the second franking the form with two wins since.

3.15 Doncaster

The Sky Bet Chase looks the ideal opportunity for the 2017 Betbright Chase winner Pilgrims Bay to strike for the first time this season at an attractive each-way price.

Fifth at Newbury in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase in November at 40/1 he then finished runner-up to Tintern Theatre at Kempton’s Christmas meeting.

Pilgrims Bay has to be delivered late and his regular pilot James Best rides him superbly.

Beer Goggles would be a fitting winner of the Cleeve Hurdle following the tragic death of his trainer Richard Woollacott aged 40 this week.

Richard Woollacott showed all his talent as a fine trainer with Beer Goggles progressing from a mark of 113 when winning at Newbury last March to a current rating of 159 after his most recent success at Newbury when winning the Long Distance Hurdle in November at 40/1.

Today Beer Goggles has to shoulder a 6lb penalty, yet at Newbury he had the likes of Uknowwhatimeanharry, Colin Sister’s (reopposes) and Wholestone (reopposes) in rear and will give another bold show in a wide open renewal.
