Fashion

The Goodwood Panama on Rosie Tapner

Goodwood is synonymous with dressing to impress, especially on Ladies’ Day (Thursday). If you fancy winning a trip of a lifetime to South Africa, enter the L’Ormarins Best Dressed 2021 Competition on the 30th July – details here. Don’t forget your panama either – the Goodwood Look is a must for this meeting and the panama hat is a staple of Goodwood fashion for both men and women.

Food & Drink

Dining at Goodwood is an unforgettable experience thanks to the stunning views, award-winning food and top quality bars.

The Wine Tipster is especially looking forward to enjoying the delicious offerings of Gusbourne Fine English Wines. As the Official English Sparkling Supplier of the Goodwood Estate, bottles of Gusbourne are available across the hospitality venues at Goodwood. Gusbourne, once ‘Goosebourne’ after the 1410 owner of the estate, has been producing award-winning wines since plantation in 2004. With the guidance of Head Winemaker Charlie Holland and Laura Rhys MS, they have been winner of the IWSC English Wine Producer of the Year a record-breaking three times.

The Gusbourne vineyards are based in Kent and West Sussex, with 60 hectares planted in Appledore, Kent and 30 hectares close to the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. The Sussex vineyards are all planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier which are blended with fruits from the other Gusbourne vineyards to create the beautiful wines that can be enjoyed at Glorious Goodwood. Look out for the following at the track, or purchase your own for At Home celebrations via the website here or from The Goodwood Shop:

Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2016 – “Bright gold in colour, this classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier highlights red fruit aromas of cherry and strawberry, which then develop into attractive fresh pastry notes. With a bridge of citrus fruit, the palate is clean and fresh whilst giving tones of soft stone fruit and a long, refreshing finish.”

Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2016

Gusbourne Rosé 2016 – “Delicate pink in appearance, with soft summer berries and floral notes on the nose. The palate shows bright red fruits, driven by ripe strawberries, fresh cherries and redcurrants, with a crisp freshness and creamy, rounded texture on the finish.”

Gusbourne Rosé 2016

Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016 – “A bright golden colour with a delicate mousse, Blanc de Blancs has classic Chardonnay aromas of green apple, citrus and mineral notes combined with buttered toast and Tarte Tatin richness from extended lees ageing.”

Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016

Another staple of Glorious Goodwood is a bottle of Goodwood Beer. The Dukes of Richmond have been brewing beer at Goodwood for centuries, and today’s Goodwood Brewery has brought this tradition into the 21st Century with a focus on organic, home-grown malted barley and organic hops to make each bottle full of character and quality. They are named after famous racehorses so are great for any beer/horse racing fan! Find them at Glorious Goodwood or order online for click and collect from Home Farm.

Goodwood Beers – Lucky Leap, St.Simon, Grogger

Goodwood Beer Lucky Leap (APA) – “Created from the story of the legendary Kansas City racer, Masten Gregory, who, while approaching Woodcote Corner in the 1959 TT, detected a complete absence of the brakes and stood up in the cockpit of his car, jumped and soared through the air before impact.”

Goodwood Beer St. Simon (Lager) – “The tale of St. Simon, a light-footed racehorse so determined, he won the 1883 Goodwood Cup by over 20 lengths. Yet despite his win, he kept on running until he was out of sight, over the top of the Trundle.”

Goodwood Beer Grogger (Pale Ale) – “The story of Grogger the Boxer dog. When his owner, the Farnham Flyer, would drink a pint to celebrate finishing a race, Grogger would famously steal a sip from his glass.”

The Wine Tipster wishes you a truly Glorious Goodwood However you are celebrating, share with him on Social Media and keep up to date with his daily Unibet Racing Blogs and Tips. Cheers!

As a drinks specialist, The Wine Tipster is particularly excited about the Glorious Goodwood Hampers on sale to make celebrating the races even easier and more luxurious. Choose one of three hampers to be delivered for a day of the festival – the last day to order being Saturday 25th July to arrive in time for the fifth day of the races. Each wicker hamper, tied with a Goodwood ribbon, is filled with five-courses of delicious local and artisan foods from award-winning British producers, as well as the option to choose a bottle of Veuve Clicquot, Gusbourne English Sparkling Wine or Mirabeau Rosé. See below for a list of menus to choose from.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin is a French Champagne house based in Reims, specialising in premium products. It was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and is one of the largest champagne houses in the world. Veuve Clicquot is famous around the world for their Brut Yellow Label and for Champagne’s greatest dame Barbe-Nicole Clicquot-Ponsardin, who took over the running of the house after the death of her husband in 1805, becoming one of Champagne’s great entrepreneurs and innovators.

At Mirabeau, their focus is on making delectable, dry pink wines that are a perfect partner to a vast assortment of foods and are diverse enough to be served at any occasion. Provence is the most magical and exciting place in the world to make rosé. This pale pink wine has been made there since 600 B.C., so it’s no surprise that this area is famous for making the best in the world. Their award winning rosé wines have been crafted from some of the finest sun-drenched vineyards in the region.

Gusbourne Estate in Appledore in Kent dates back to 1410, and is a leading producer in England of Sparkling wines. In 2004, Andrew Weeber took over the estate and planted the first vines that year and they have since built a tremendous reputation for producing top class sparkling wines from their vineyards in Kent and West Sussex planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Their fabulous Gusbourne Brut Reserve is this hamper showcases why they have a top reputation for high quality wines.

Return to Racing Update

The Qatar Goodwood Festival has been chosen as one of the pilot events to welcome crowds back to elite sporting venues in England. The pilot is part of the Government’s fifth stage in the Return to Elite Competition protocol. On the 1st August, an event for 5,000 people, plus participants, has been designed for the safety of all participants and racegoers. Attendance will initially be offered to Goodwood Racecourse Annual Members and their guests. The day will be carefully planned in conjunction with the local government and other relevant bodies to ensure that the event carries minimal risk to attendees and the local community.

This is an exciting step for British Horseracing, and The Wine Tipster is awaiting the safe return of the sport whilst continuing to celebrate from home until it is safe to resume normal proceedings.

The Wine Tipster wishes you a safe and enjoyable Glorious Goodwood, full of good food, wine and wins! Cheers!
