A cracking Saturday of racing coming up Sandown, featuring the Unibet Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle Grade 1 and the ever popular Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase Series Final. There is a competitive card at Wincanton too so plenty to enjoy on both ITV and Racing TV

Enjoy whether at the races or #athome

12.40 Sandown – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Mares’ Hurdle Listed (2m 3f)

Martello Sky is such a likeable mare and I tipped her up in my Unibet blog last time out when she stepped up once again to win at Cheltenham. Martello Sky is improving all the time, has the ground conditions and trip to hold off hot favourite Gauloise.

Unibet 5/2 win

1.50 Sandown – Unibet Horserace Betting Operator Of The Year Handicap Chase (1m 7½f)

Up The Straight is interesting dropping back to this trip off a favourable mark of 132. The worry will be he simply gets outpaced, with Numitor and Moonlighter both likely to be pushing on, and this could fall into his lap late on coming up the hill. His second here to Farinet (favourite in the 1.15 Read Nicky Henderson’s Unibet Blog Handicap Chase) in March admittedly over further is good form, as they were well clear of the third. This eight-year-old has never really fulfilled his potential and the drop back to this distance might be the catalyst, especially in testing ground.

Unibet 15/2 each way

Constitution Hill Credit: Alan Crowhurst (Getty Images)

2.25 Sandown – Unibet Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle Grade 1 (2m)

Constitution Hill for Unibet Ambassador Nicky Henderson, looks as things stand, to have a great chance in the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival. I was presenting at the Tingle Creek meeting in December at Sandown when he showed a terrific turn of foot on debut. Constitution Hill flew up the hill to record a massive speed figure and so impressed everyone, including his trainer Nicky Henderson. He should win this easily at heavily odds on 1/3 Unibet  before heading to the Festival.

For the each way players here then Shallwehaveonemore Unibet 7/1 each way is the selection to chase home Constitution Hill. Shallwehaveonemore was far from disgraced on his hurdles debut at Ascot when second to Kandoo Kid in a race where the form is working out well with Peking Rose (third) winning easily at Newbury.

Unibet Day

3.00 Sandown – Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase Series Final (3m)

Final Nudge (nap) can make a late challenge here and come from off a strong pace with plenty of front runners in the field. Final Nudge won a good veterans event at Warwick over this trip on his only start this season and is a proven stayer as he was third in the Midlands Grand National on his previous appearance. The thirteen-year-old is lightly raced and has surely been laid out for this series final by Fergal O’Brien.

Unibet 100/30 win

Gwencily Berbas, who since joining David Pipe last May has form figures of 3231 and like Final Nudge will come with a late challenge. Gwencily Berbas travelled well when scoring easily in a seventeen runner race at Exeter last time at 25/1 (overpriced) over a longer trip. On his penultimate start Gwencily Berbas was third to Wandrin Star (reopposes today) when running well here over today’s trip in November, fading late on and clearly needing the run after an absence.

Unibet 9/1 each way

3.35 Sandown – Unibet Casino Deposit £10 Get £40 Handicap Hurdle (2m)

Hermes Boy has a strong chance here on Handicap debut, having won his last start at Exeter when pushed out in a race where the second and third have finished first and second since. Hermes Boy finished runner-up on his two previous starts and is clearly open to more improvement.

Unibet 9/4 win

The Kempton Park Christmas Festival (26th-27th December 2021) is the jewel in the Kempton Park crown, boasting 12 top quality races over two days and a staple of the festive racing calendar. Here, The Wine Tipster shares his favourite racing moments from the Kempton Christmas archive, and some unmissable wine to accompany the Christmas weekend. Cheers!

King George VI Chase Day – 26th December

Day one is all about The King George VI Chase (3:05) which showcases some incredible talent and is a chance to make horse racing history. It is synonymous with some of the most famous names in racing with Arkle, Pendil, Wayward Lad and Best Mate among its winners. In 2020, history was made in the King George VI Chase with Frodon winning, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by the first female rider to win the race: Bryony Frost.

Also featured on Friday are the Grade 1 races the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase (1:55) and the Christmas Hurdle (2:30). The former is named after the great Kauto Star who won the King George a record-breaking 5 times and was one of the most successful steeplechasers of his era.

Desert Orchid Chase Day – 27th December

Day two of the Festival is named in honour of Desert Orchid (Dessie) who won the King George an impressive 4 times and ran his last race at Kempton before retiring. His ashes are buried close to his memorial statue overlooking the parade ring at Kempton Park.

The Monday is packed full of quality racing including the Grade 2 (1:20) Wayward Lad Novices’ Steeple Chase, the (1:55) Mares’ Handicap Hurdle Race, and, of course, the (2:30) Desert Orchid Chase. In 2020, Dan Skelton trained Nube Negra to became only the second horse to beat Altior in winning the Desert Orchid Chase.

Celebrating The Christmas Festival

Whether you are at Kempton or at home for The Christmas Festival, The Wine Tipster has an array of wine and food tips to accompany this first class race meeting.

If you are looking for a tipple or two alongside the races, a glass of Ruggeri Argeo Prosecco DOC Brut is a vibrant and refreshing Prosecco with citrus fruit flavours and lovely crisp acidity. It’s a classic, stylish Prosecco, from this highly regarded producer. Great as an aperitif, or with fish dishes, it’s vegan friendly and abv 11%. Available from The Great Wine Co. (£11.75).

Ruggeri Argeo Prosecco DOC Brut – The Great Wine Co. (£11.75)

For a classy white for Christmas at Kempton, the Mâcon-Lugny Le Crays Joseph Drouhin 2020, Burgundy, France is the perfect bottle. Maison Joseph Drouhin have been producing a fantastic array of Burgundy wines for over 140 years, with the fourth generation now at the helm. This Chardonnay is tremendous value, lovely to have on its own or with fish dishes, it’s vegan friendly and abv 13%. Available from The Great Wine Co. (£18.85).

Top red for the weekend has to be the Ken Forrester Reserve Merlot 2018, Stellenbosch, South Africa (abv 14%). Ken Forrester made his first wines in 1994 and has built an international reputation for the range of wines he produces. He is renowned for his Grade 1 Chenin Blancs and there are excellent reds too, including his Reserve Merlot which is medium bodied with intense cherry fruit, herbal notes and friendly tannins. Only available at The Jockey Club Racecourse so do try if you are at Kempton, however, check out the great range of Ken Forrester wines at The Great Wine Co. Perfect for a range of dishes at Christmas time.

What a Saturday of racing coming up with the second day of the Tingle Creek Festival, the Unibet Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree over the National fences and twice Grand National winner Tiger Roll making his seasonal debut in the Unibet Many Clouds Chase, with the cross country at Cheltenham looking his key target. Ground conditions look likely to get much more testing at Aintree and Native River Unibet 17/8 in the Unibet Many Clouds Chase can make this a true stamina test and fend off favourite Protektorat and Imperial Aura.

At Sandown in the Henry VIII Novices Chase, Third Time Lucki, one of my Ten To Follow, has won twice at Cheltenham this season over fences and can make it three on the bounce at Unibet 6/4 to beat easy Newbury winner last weekend Il Ridoto and Edwardstone.

The Tingle Creek is one of my races of the year and I’m looking forward to seeing Chacun Pour Soi, Nube Negra and Greaneteen renew rivalry at one of my favourite racecourses.

Enjoy whether #athome or at the races.

See you at Sandown.

Cheers

The Wine Tipster

2.25 Sandown – Tingle Creek Chase Grade 1 (1m 7½f)

Nube Negra at The Festival finished an unlucky second to Put The Kettle On in the Champion Chase, with Chacun Pour Soi back in third. Admittedly Chacun Pour Soi was then superb in the Champion Chase at Punchestown, with Nube Negra delivering a below par performance back in third. However, on seasonal debut at Cheltenham in the Shloer Chase Nube Negra (tipped in my Unibet blog) he showed he was still improving when beating Politologue by six lengths. Nube Negra can step up again and the ground conditions of good, good to soft in places with little rain forecast look much more in his favour.

Unibet 17/8 win

2.40 Aintree – Unibet Becher Handicap Chase (National Fences) (3m 2f)

Snow Leopardess (nap) has never fallen in her career, is a fine jumper and has a strong chance if adapting to these unique fences, which looks likely. She won well on seasonal debut last month at Bangor on soft going, beating Windsor Avenue over three miles when delivering a career best. Last season this grey won a Class 2 at Haydock half a furlong short of today’s trip, was second in a Roland Meyrick at Wetherby and finished fourth in the National Hunt Chase to Galvin at The Festival over three miles six furlongs. She will handle more testing conditions, with rain currently forecast and Snow Leopardess, who is having her eighth chase start, has more progress to come.

Unibet 11/2 win

Achille is another good jumper and can run a big race on seasonal debut for Venetia Williams, who showed last week with Cloudy Glen, that her string can win competitive races after an absence. This

grey has been relatively lightly raced in recent years for the yard and came back after a 427 break to finish second in the Classic Chase at Warwick this year. He was then runner-up to Lord Mesnil in the Grand National Trial at Haydock, when just touched off, ahead of finishing sixth in the Midlands Grand National on his last start in March. Three of his four chase wins have been over three miles and he obviously has the stamina too in what looks likely to be a testing renewal.

Unibet 12/1 each way

3.00 Sandown – London National Handicap Chase (3m 4f)

Christmas In April, for the resurgent Tizzard team, looked in good order last time out when runner-up at Carlisle behind the still-improving Hold That Taught, trying to give him 6lb after racing enthusiastically throughout. Back in May, on his penultimate start, he won in good style at Newton Abbot beating Highest Sun. He faced mission impossible, looking back, when trying to give Cloudy Glen weight in the Southern National last year. Christmas In April come here in good form and will go well.

Unibet 15/2 each way

3.15 Aintree – Unibet 2021 Horserace Betting Operator Of The Year Handicap Hurdle (2m 4f)

Tamar Bridge made it three wins from four starts when easily winning on his seasonal reappearance at Wetherby in a novice hurdle for the inform Olly Murphy team at the end of October. He had previously beaten Bass Rock in a match in the heavy at Ayr, with the runner-up third to Dans Le Vent in the Stayers’ Hurdle on Haydock’s big jumps day last month this is good form. Tamar Bridge runs off a favourable looking mark of 128 and is proven in testing conditions if the forecast rain comes.

Unibet 7/2 win

3.35 Sandown – December Handicap Hurdle Listed (2m)

Heure De Glorie, a four-year-old filly by Kapgarde, is worth an each way wager off bottom weight (three pounds out of the handicap) on Handicap debut. Heure De Glorie won on debut in France and then finished second to Bellatrixsa at Huntingdon in March when travelling well for a long way. She has had a wind op; ground will be fine, and this filly is an interesting runner.

Christmas is just around the corner and the highlight of the Jump Racing calendar is upon us at Sandown Park this weekend (3rd and 4th December). The Tingle Creek Festival is always a magical two days of high quality racing and is a great chance to spot your winners for the Cheltenham Festival next Spring. The Wine Tipster is excited to be presenting at Sandown this year in the fantastic award-winning Equus Restaurant where he will be talking food, drink and horse racing.

The Opening Day – Tingle Creek Friday 3rd December

Today’s 6 race card is a must watch from start to finish, with the Grade Two Winter Novices’ Hurdle headlining the day. The Wine Tipster is looking out for Mahler’s Promise, who is a superb jumper and has good course form in the 1.50 Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase. In the Grade Two Ballymore Winter Novices’ Hurdle at 2.25 Harper’s Brook, who was really impressive when winning a Novice Hurdle at Carlisle on seasonal debut, looks open to plenty of improvement, whilst in the 3.00 Handicap Chase One True King can strike for the inform Nigel Twiston-Davies team. In the final race of the day the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle Mr Harp, off bottom weight, has been overlooked. He put in some good performances last season when winning at Uttoxeter and then running well at Warwick in a hot Handicap Hurdle. Mr Harp will come on plenty from his seasonal debut at Ffos Las.

Tingle Creek Saturday 4th December

Saturday is a storming race day with two Grade One races on the card – The Henry VIII Novices’ Chase and The Tingle Creek Chase which is 1 mile 7 furlongs and 119 yards, has 13 fences, and 52 years of history. It is named in honour of the great National Hunt racehorse from the 1970s who won the Sandown Park Pattern Handicap Chase 3 times.

One of The Wine Tipster’s favourite racing moments of all time was the 2018 Tingle Creek Chase which was run in appalling conditions but Altior and Un De Sceaux raced heroically with Altior just taking the win. An emotionally charged day for all watching, here’s hoping to some more racing history moments at this year’s Tingle Creek.

Check out his Unibet Racing blog for selections and includes the top races from Aintree too.

Watch the racing on Racing TV and ITV4.

Celebrating In Style

Get ready for Christmas at the Tingle Creek Festival this year with hospitality and entertainment to get you in the festive spirit. Join The Wine Tipster in the Equus Restaurant for a stunning view of the racecourse and top quality hospitality.

It’s wine time, and the perfect accompaniment to the races, whether at home or at Sandown Park, is a glass of the wonderful Louis M Martini Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Sonoma, California. This wine just shows how brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon from California can be, with intense dark fruit flavours and spicy and herbal notes (available from The Great Wine Co. £22).

Staying in California, the Bogle Chardonnay 2019, is a lovely balance of creamy and buttery flavours, with gentle oaky notes and attractive crisp acidity (also available from The Great Wine Co. £16.50).

For those of you looking for a glass of bubbly then try the Ruggeri Prosecco DOC Rosé Millesimato 2020 Brut from Treviso in the Veneto region of North-East Italy. Their white Ruggeri Prosecco DOC Argeo Brut, Treviso also has a lovely freshness, with citrus fruit and good acidity too. Both available from the Great Wine Co. (Rosé £13.95, white £11.10 on offer).

Hospitality

View from The Cheltenham Club where The Wine Tipster will be presenting over the weekend

The next question after which races to watch and who to back is where to watch them from? Cheltenham’s three enclosures each boast a unique racegoer experience with different hospitality options. The Best Mate Enclosure has a top class view of the Grandstand and course and a good selection of food outlets; The Tattersalls Enclosure gets you closer to the action of the Winner’s Enclosure and Winning Post as well as having great views from the Grandstand and top food options; and finally, The Club Enclosure will get you into all the food and drink outlets and racecourse areas for a truly premier Cheltenham experience.

This year’s food and drink options are second-to-none, with something to satisfy every racegoer from mobile catering units to luxury bars and restaurants. See below for a map of all the top attractions this meeting:

The Wine Tipster is especially excited about visiting The November Lounge over the weekend, and with its TV and bar, what more could he need! The wines on offer across the course are particularly special this year, and The Wine Tipster is looking forward to presenting on the wine list and the value of raceday hospitality in the Panoramic Restaurant and the Cheltenham Club on the top floor of The Princess Royal Stand.

In particular, the following wines really stand out from the wine list and are well worth a try if you are at the course or at home:

If you’re not at Cheltenham this weekend, you can still get in the racing spirit with a Glenfarclas cocktail (sponsors of the Cross Country Handicap Steeplechase). Why not try the delicious and easy to make 105 Mizu-Wari cocktail with 25ml Glenfarclas 105 and 150ml Soda water, served long with lots of ice and garnished with an orange slice.

Entertainment

The November Meeting is always packed with fun and exciting entertainment from music to family fun activities. This year is no different, with a spectacular range of features to enjoy. Countryside Day has a huge amount to offer, with a Gun Dog Display and Hound Parade, the ROR parade, an Air Display from the Bremont Great War Display Team, Kaleb Cooper from Clarkson’s Farm, and the return of the Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale. For more shopping opportunities, make your way to The Shopping Village with over 70 trade stands.

For great music, the Hipcats will be walking around bringing Jazz to every corner of the racecourse and in the Village, The Lucky 15’s are playing between races. After-racing entertainment across the three days will also include a DJ set from BBC Radio 1’s Chris Stark and The Chip Shop Boys.

Looking for some family fun? Sunday’s activities for all the family include a bouncy castle, inflatable fun, animals from St James City Farm, face painting, arts and crafts, pet balloons, and much more! Under 18s go free and 18-24 year olds get half price tickets, so why not make it a family day out to Cheltenham?

What a Saturday of racing ahead with the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, a super competitive card at Ascot, the Grade 1 Champion Chase at Down Royal and the final race day of 2021 at Newmarket.

The Champion Chase at Down Royal is a fascinating renewal, and it would be great to see Frodon come out on top here, however the Gold Cup winner Minella Indo is a worthy favourite. At Wetherby in the Charlie Hall Chase Cyrname is rightly favourite and goes well fresh but last season’s form figures of 1PP do not inspire total confidence and the exciting Shan Blue Unibet 11/4 could turn over the market leader here.

Enjoy whether #athome or on a racecourse.

Cheers

2.10 Ascot – Bateaux London Handicap Hurdle Listed Race (1m 7½f)

Soaring Glory looked the real deal when winning Newbury’s big February handicap and then didn’t quite hit the level in the Supreme at Cheltenham when fourth to the top class Appreciate It. However, he is more than capable of striking here, having won on debut at Chepstow last season beating Bravemansgame and Soaring Glory has a bumper win at Ascot on his CV too.

Unibet 5/1 win

Global Citizen has plenty of top-class form with two Grade 2 Hurdle wins and two Grade 2 Chase successes. Of course, last season’s form figures aren’t enticing with PPP but he was racing in very competitive races and this nine-year-old cab bounce back. Global Citizen has dropped to a mark of 142 and was second in this race three years ago on seasonal debut. His trainer Ben Pauling has his yard in top form right now.

Unibet 18/1 each way

2.23 Newmarket – Handicap (1m)

Noble Dynasty had absolutely no luck in running at Haydock last time out when finishing fifth and surely is better than his current mark of 95. He has finished second on his two appearances on the Rowley Mile and can go one better day with cheekpieces fitted.

Unibet 2/1 win

3.20 Ascot – Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase Grade 2 (3m)

Sojourn (nap) looked impressive when winning a good Handicap Chase at Carlisle on seasonal debut last year with the placed runners having performed well since. He was then a good second to Sam’s Adventure (subsequently won Eider) in the Tommy Whittle at Haydock ahead of being pulled up quickly in the Grand National Trial, having suffered a wound in his right-hind leg. Whilst he is seen as a heavy ground performer, he won a bumper on good going, has a great record fresh and a breathing operation may help too.

Unibet 6/1 each way

One More Fleurie won four of his last five starts last season and looked so visually impressive at Ayr on Scottish Grand National Day when jumping impeccably to win the Novices’ Champion Handicap Chase easily on good going. He has to prove he is as effective going right-handed and he did win on soft at Warwick, with little rain forecast for today at Ascot ground should be fine.

Unibet 10/1 each way

3.55 Ascot – Stella Artois Novices’ Hurdle (1m 7½f)

Peking Rose is a very interesting hurdling debutant for Unibet Ambassador Fergal O’ Brien. Peking Rose won on debut at Carlisle and then on his last start in April finished second to Knappers Hill (won this month on hurdling debut) when doing all his best work at the finish in a hot bumper at Aintree.

Ground will suit and if he settles well he has a good chance here.

Unibet 100/30 win

Day two at The Showcase Meeting at Cheltenham and it is always great to be back at the home of jump racing. Whilst it is disappointing to see only four runners in the hurdle at 2.55 it is certainly competitive, with Tritonic, I Like To Move It and Stepney Causeway in the field. I’m looking forward to seeing Sky Pirate and Storm Control as they have a good record at Cheltenham and both leave their best performances for Prestbury.

Up at Doncaster, the Group 1 the Futurity Trophy Stakes is an intriguing renewal, with favourite Luxembourg, Royal Lodge Stakes winner Royal Patronage and Champagne Stakes victor Bayside Boy in the line-up.

Enjoy whether at a racecourse or #athome

1.45 Cheltenham – NHS Vaccinating Heroes Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (2m ½f)

Ingleby Hollow can make the long trip worthwhile for the Rebecca Menzies team with the unexposed runners in the field Samarrive and Timberman given high enough marks.

Ingleby Hollow looked very unlucky when repeatedly denied a clear run in the valuable Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen and has had two narrow defeats since joining his new yard. His last start at Cartmel when second to Alqamar, beaten a neck, looks very solid form. The ground will suit, and he can strike with a typically late challenge.

Unibet 11/1 each way

2.20 Cheltenham – Handicap Chase (3m 1f)

Storm Control goes so well at Cheltenham and has a strong chance of winning here again for the inform Kerry Lee yard. Last season Storm Control won at the November meeting and then followed up in December when beating Potters Legend in the Grade 3 Unibet Handicap Chase and he is running off the same mark today. Storm Control will be ready for his first run and Richard Patrick can let him bowl along in front.

Unibet 9/2

3.15 Doncaster – Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes Group 1 (1m)

Bayside Boy was doing all his best work at the finish of the Dewhurst when third to Native Trial over seven furlongs, with the step up to a mile a positive. Bayside Boy won the Champagne Stakes here in September and with concerns about the form of the Aidan O’Brien yard, who runs Luxembourg, then Bayside Boy represents some value.

Unibet 11/2 each way

3.30 Cheltenham – Handicap Chase (1m 7f)

Sky Pirate (nap) was first tipped up in my Unibet blog at the December meeting when showing that this trip is really what suits him when winning in good style off a mark of 134. Sky Pirate won next time at Warwick and then ended his season with victory in the Grand Annual. This eight-year-old carries top weight, is now on a mark of 159 and can win on seasonal debut at a course where he goes so well.

Unibet 5/2 win

4.05 Cheltenham – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (3m)

Born Patriot has given the impression on more than one occasion that this trip is right for him this year. He was third in the Scottish Stayers Novices’ Hurdle over three miles last season and ran a solid third in competitive Killarney handicap in May and would have needed a recent outing at Navan after a break when fourth to Tullybeg (reopposes today). A good strong gallop will suit as will Prestbury and this five-year-old has plenty of improvement to come.

Unibet 13/2 each way

Push The Tempo won last month at Worcester on good ground on his first start for four months after a breathing operation. He was idling in front that day and if he can come on from that success he has strong each way claims.

Fashion

The Goodwood Panama on Rosie Tapner

Goodwood is synonymous with dressing to impress, especially on Ladies’ Day (Thursday). If you fancy winning a trip of a lifetime to South Africa, enter the L’Ormarins Best Dressed 2021 Competition on the 30th July – details here. Don’t forget your panama either – the Goodwood Look is a must for this meeting and the panama hat is a staple of Goodwood fashion for both men and women.

Food & Drink

Dining at Goodwood is an unforgettable experience thanks to the stunning views, award-winning food and top quality bars.

The Wine Tipster is especially looking forward to enjoying the delicious offerings of Gusbourne Fine English Wines. As the Official English Sparkling Supplier of the Goodwood Estate, bottles of Gusbourne are available across the hospitality venues at Goodwood. Gusbourne, once ‘Goosebourne’ after the 1410 owner of the estate, has been producing award-winning wines since plantation in 2004. With the guidance of Head Winemaker Charlie Holland and Laura Rhys MS, they have been winner of the IWSC English Wine Producer of the Year a record-breaking three times.

The Gusbourne vineyards are based in Kent and West Sussex, with 60 hectares planted in Appledore, Kent and 30 hectares close to the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. The Sussex vineyards are all planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier which are blended with fruits from the other Gusbourne vineyards to create the beautiful wines that can be enjoyed at Glorious Goodwood. Look out for the following at the track, or purchase your own for At Home celebrations via the website here or from The Goodwood Shop:

Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2016 – “Bright gold in colour, this classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier highlights red fruit aromas of cherry and strawberry, which then develop into attractive fresh pastry notes. With a bridge of citrus fruit, the palate is clean and fresh whilst giving tones of soft stone fruit and a long, refreshing finish.”

Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2016

Gusbourne Rosé 2016 – “Delicate pink in appearance, with soft summer berries and floral notes on the nose. The palate shows bright red fruits, driven by ripe strawberries, fresh cherries and redcurrants, with a crisp freshness and creamy, rounded texture on the finish.”

Gusbourne Rosé 2016

Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016 – “A bright golden colour with a delicate mousse, Blanc de Blancs has classic Chardonnay aromas of green apple, citrus and mineral notes combined with buttered toast and Tarte Tatin richness from extended lees ageing.”

Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016

Another staple of Glorious Goodwood is a bottle of Goodwood Beer. The Dukes of Richmond have been brewing beer at Goodwood for centuries, and today’s Goodwood Brewery has brought this tradition into the 21st Century with a focus on organic, home-grown malted barley and organic hops to make each bottle full of character and quality. They are named after famous racehorses so are great for any beer/horse racing fan! Find them at Glorious Goodwood or order online for click and collect from Home Farm.

Goodwood Beer Lucky Leap (APA) – “Created from the story of the legendary Kansas City racer, Masten Gregory, who, while approaching Woodcote Corner in the 1959 TT, detected a complete absence of the brakes and stood up in the cockpit of his car, jumped and soared through the air before impact.”

Goodwood Beer St. Simon (Lager) – “The tale of St. Simon, a light-footed racehorse so determined, he won the 1883 Goodwood Cup by over 20 lengths. Yet despite his win, he kept on running until he was out of sight, over the top of the Trundle.”

Goodwood Beer Grogger (Pale Ale) – “The story of Grogger the Boxer dog. When his owner, the Farnham Flyer, would drink a pint to celebrate finishing a race, Grogger would famously steal a sip from his glass.”

The Wine Tipster is honoured to be a Brand Ambassador for this exciting new spirit, and is looking forward to sharing his thoughts on this wonderful gin which embodies both of his two passions!

Racing Gin by The Burford Distilling Company

Founded by a team of hospitality professionals, The Burford Distilling Company (BDC) was established in Autumn 2020 and has got off to a fine start with the release of Racing Gin. Inspired by the team’s love of horse racing and connections to the Cotswolds, this gin is targeted at racegoers and features a beautiful label of racing silks.

Racing Gin bottles

There are a great number of ways to enjoy the gin, BDC recommend serving with ginger beer for a deliciously warming beverage, or with a citrus tonic for a wonderfully summery number.

Here’s what The Wine Tipster has to say about Racing Gin:

“Racing fans take note – if you enjoy quality gin, you’ll love Racing Gin from The Burford Distilling Company. This brilliant new gin has citrus notes of lime and lemon zest, combined with herbaceous rosemary and thyme, following through with savoury, floral and spicy tones. It’s balanced, delicate and elegant, with great staying power on the finish. Classic Racing Gin & Tonic is a safe bet, while some will fancy a flutter on creative cocktails. Perfect for enjoying whilst watching racing at home”

A smashing first release from BDC, we look forward to many more top quality bottles! Watch this space.
